18th December 2019 – Christmas Baking Class
Dr. Cecilia Chan and her research team attended their first ever cake baking class at Kwun Tong as a Christmas gathering. Each of us successfully baked a professional mango crispy cake and brought it back home with high satisfaction. It was a very fun and fulfilling experience!


21st – 22nd October 2019 – Dr. Cecilia Chan delivered plenary speech at ICEE-Phil 2019, Iloilo City, Philippines
Dr. Cecilia Chan was invited as a plenary speaker at the International Conference on Engineering Education – Philippines 2019 (ICEE-Phil 2019) with the theme “Re-engineering Engineering Education: Shifting Gears, Powering Up and Leading the Way”. She felt honored to be part of the event which has been fun, rewarding and simply brilliant! It was an enriching conference and the organisation spared no hospitality. Private: 11th October 2019 – Congrats to Michelle for a successful PhD defense
Michelle Cheng is Dr. Cecilia Chan’s second PhD student who has graduated this year!! Michelle successfully defended her PhD thesis on “Generic Competencies Development through Experiential Learning: Investigating Diversity in First-year Residential Experiences”. Many congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment and best wishes as you begin an exciting new phase of life.


Private: 7th August 2019 – Ms. Michelle Cheng won the Online People’s Choice Award in the HKU Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) Competition 2019
Dr. Cecilia Chan’s postgraduate student, Ms. Michelle Cheng received the Online People’s Choice Award in the HKU Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) Competition 2019 organized by HKU Knowledge Exchange Office (KEO). Michelle’s topic was on “University Residential Hall – Far Beyond a Place to Stay” and her video presentation has received many positive responses from the audiences. Congratulations Michelle!!


2nd August 2019 – New paper published in Educational Psychology: An International Journal of Experimental Educational Psychology
We are happy to announce the publication of our latest journal article written by Dr. Cecilia K.Y Chan (Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, HKU) and Dr. Jonathan N.C. Yeung (Department of Psychology, HKU). The paper was published online in Educational Psychology: An International Journal of Experimental Educational Psychology, discussing “Students’ ‘approach to develop’ in holistic competency: an adaption of the 3P model”. 1st August – 7th August 2019 – Ms. Katherine Lee attended the 10th University Scholars Leadership Symposium
Ms. Katherine Lee, Dr. Cecilia Chan’s postgraduate student has attended the 10th University Scholars Leadership Symposium held this year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from August 1st to 7th. The symposium brought together hundreds of students from all around the world, aiming to prepare them as leaders of the future through a series of talks, opportunities for roundtable discussions, and a service learning day.

Ms. Michelle Cheng, a postgraduate student of Dr. Cecilia Chan presented at the 4th Canadian International Conference in Advances in Education, Teaching & Technology 2019 (EduTeach2019) which was held on 27th to 28th July 2019 in Toronto, Canada. Her presentation topic was on “Photovoice Approach – University Residential Experiences: Developing First-year Undergraduates Self-management Skills”.


17th July 2019 – Congratulations to Dr. Lillian Luk on a successful PhD defense
Lillian who has worked in the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL), at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) for the last 8 years has passed her PhD oral defense today. Her dissertation topic is “Engineering Students’ Experiential Learning Journey: Nurturing Generic Competencies through Internship Experience.” Lillian is the first PhD in CETL and the first PhD investigating the area of Engineering Education in Hong Kong.
