Dr. Cecilia Chan was invited by Prof. Samson Tse, Dean of Student Affairs to give a speech at the High Table organised for first-year students on 10 October 2021 (Sunday) at Loke Yew Hall of The University of Hong Kong. During the event, Dr. Chan delivered a 20-minute speech on “University Education: Between the Ideal and the Reality”.
The Centre of Development and Resources for Students (“CEDARS”) has designed the Non-Academic Induction Programme with a series of activities to prepare students for the psychosocial, intellectual and social challenges in university education. As a proud tradition of HKU, the concluding High Table served as a memorable prelude to students’ university life.
About 250 first-year students from across ten faculties took part in the High Table. Most of them are from Hong Kong and Mainland China with some from other parts of the world. Dozens of alumni and faculty members were also present to provide students the unique opportunity to network and make new friends while developing a sense of pride and identity with the University.
