On 17 January 2024, representatives of UNESCO-ICHEI paid a visit to HKU and met with Prof. Yang Rui, Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. Cecilia Chan, Director of TALIC, Prof. Chan’s research team, Dr. Katherine Lee, Dr. Hannah Wong, and other colleagues from TALIC to discuss possible collaboration in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. The delegation included Prof. LIANG Jiansheng, Executive Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI; Ms. BI Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI; Mr. SIT Fung, Chief of International Institute of Online Education (IIOE); Ms. SU Rui, Chief of Knowledge Production and Communications Centre (KPCC); Mr. LYU Feng, Project Expert of IIOE; Mr. TANG Xiangzheng, Programme Officer of IIOE; Ms. SHI Qiao, Programme Officer of IIOE, and Mr. WANG Chao, Intern of IIOE. The meeting was a fruitful and valuable opportunity for both parties to exchange ideas, and share their experiences and expertise on how AI can be integrated into educational practices.

One of the highlights of the visit was a tour of the AI in Education Lab (AIED@HKU) located in the TALIC office, where the delegates saw samples of how AI is being utilized to enhance learning experiences. Additionally, the representatives visited the TIPS Studio and Learning Commons, two collaborative spaces dedicated to fostering creativity and innovation in teaching and learning.
