Professor Cecilia Chan attended the launch of The University of Hong Kong School of Computing and Data Science’s Shanghai Teaching and Research Site in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai. The new site marks an important milestone in expanding HKU’s presence within Shanghai’s vibrant innovation and technology ecosystem.

As part of the opening activities, Professor Chan was invited to speak at the 2026 Hong Kong–Shanghai AI Forum (1–2 March 2026), hosted at the new site by the HKU Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science and the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, with support from the HKU School of Computing and Data Science.

The forum brought together leading scholars and experts from different cities around the world to explore the latest developments in artificial intelligence, including foundation models, AI for science (AI4Science), and AI in education. The event provided a valuable platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among researchers, educators, and industry partners.

During the forum, Professor Cecilia Chan presented HKU’s research on AI-resilient assessment, entitled “Are you cheating, or are you just using Generative AI? An AI-resilient assessment solution.” Her presentation addressed the challenges that generative AI poses for academic integrity and assessment design in higher education, and explored how universities can develop assessment approaches that remain meaningful and authentic in an AI-augmented learning environment.

The discussions at the forum also highlighted broader themes such as experiential learning, responsible AI adoption, and how universities can prepare students for a future shaped by artificial intelligence. The programme featured presentations from leading researchers, including work on explainable AI and advances in sensing and intelligent systems.

Professor Chan looks forward to continued collaboration and the development of new initiatives arising from this expanding HKU presence in Shanghai.
